What Is A Conex Box?
A conex box (also called a shipping container or storage container) is a steel container originally designed for transporting cargo across oceans. The term "CONEX" stands for Container Express, a system developed by the US military in the 1950s. Today, conex boxes are used for storage, construction, housing, offices, retail, and more.

Delivery & Placement
ConexBoxUSA delivers to all 50 states using professional tilt-bed trucks. The driver can place the container on flat ground — no crane needed. Make sure your site has adequate access:
- 20ft container: 40 feet of straight clearance minimum
- 40ft container: 60+ feet of straight clearance minimum
- Ground must be flat and firm — gravel, concrete, or compacted earth
- Check overhead clearance — power lines, trees, overhangs must be 14ft+ above
How To Inspect A Used Container
- Doors — should open and close smoothly with tight rubber gaskets
- Walls & roof — look for light coming through (holes = not watertight)
- Floor — check for rot, soft spots, or excessive wear in the plywood
- Structure — look for deep rust, bent corner posts, or significant denting
- CSC plate — verify if you need a Cargo Worthy certified container

Permits & Zoning
Permit requirements vary by city and county across the USA. Some areas allow containers as temporary structures without permits. Others require building permits and zoning approval. Always check with your local building department before purchasing.
Container-friendly states include Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Arizona, Colorado, and Oregon. Many rural counties have minimal enforcement, making them ideal for container projects.
